A Beautifully Sad, Emotive & Funny VR Adventure
Glimpse — Award-Winning VR Experience by Electric Skies
Project Description
Glimpse is an award-winning virtual reality short film produced by Electric Skies. Since its world premiere at Raindance Film Festival in 2019, it has won 9 major international awards — making it one of the most-decorated British VR productions of its era.
The experience places the viewer at the centre of a deeply personal, emotionally resonant narrative — built using cinematic VR techniques and real-time rendering. Glimpse demonstrates Electric Skies' core approach: using immersion not as a gimmick, but as a storytelling tool that creates genuine emotional presence.
Glimpse is an animated interactive VR experience starring Taron Egerton (Rocketman) and Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), produced by Electric Skies, Mr Kite and Albyon, and directed by Academy Award winning writer/director Benjamin Cleary and VR creator Michael O’Connor.
Herbie Turner (Egerton) is a talented illustrator. He’s just had a painful break up with his girlfriend of 4 years, an awesome deer called Rice (Boynton) who dreams of becoming a musician.
We embody Herbie for this experience, seeing it through his eyes. For example, if we lift our hands we see black furry hands and if we look down we can see our panda body.
As we sit in our studio, one of our drawings comes alive and rises into the air in front of us. It’s a beautiful illustration of Rice. She looks at us with sadness as the lights fade and we find ourselves sitting in darkness, suspended in the magical void of Herbie's mind.
This is the beginning of an incredible visual journey. We experience an emotive recollection of our years with Rice from the bitter end to the heights of love to the shy beginnings.
Along the way, expect musical raindrops, crumpled paper balls opening out like flowers, hot air balloons, ethereal vistas and a song played by Rice, just for us, that will melt even the coldest of hearts!
Glimpse is a sometimes sad, sometimes funny journey that brings us on an incredible, emotive trip, right into the heart of a relationship.
Glimpse premiered at Venice Biennale 2021 and has since gone on to exhibit at a number of other prestigious festivals, picking up the award for “Best Interactive Experience” at Cannes XR and the VR Cristal at Annecy, along the way.
